Ishin! is the second feudal spinoff for the Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku series, and takes several of the characters from the mainline series, reimagining them as important historical figures. In Ishin!, longtime series protagonist Kazama Kiryu is projected onto Sakamoto Ryoma, an influential samurai who advocated for the end of feudalism, and the industrialisation of Japan.

The combat segments shows Kiryu slicing up enemies with his katana whilst also blowing away some enemies with a handheld firearm. The rest of the trailer showcases the Yakuza charm that we all know and love, showing people fighting tigers, slicing bullets in half with swords, and some silly, over-the-top attacks the series is known for. Finally, it wouldn’t be a yakuza trailer without Majima showing up somehow, as the final scene shows the Mad Dog starting what is likely an intense sword fight with Kiryu.

While Yakuza Ishin launched in Japan in 2014, western players haven’t had a localized version to play just yet. And more than a localization, Like a Dragon: Ishin is being built on Unreal Engine 4. I have to say, it’s looking pretty darn good on it, too.

Of course, the game will still have heat actions for some big finishers. Sakamoto can also wield a blade in Swordsman style, a gun in the Gunman style, or both in the Wild Dancer style. Or maybe just go back to good old fists, in the Brawler stance.
