NaijaSubway Honorable of the Week (Nigeria) – Doctor Tony Rapu

Social Reformer. Change Advocate. Life Coach. – It takes a good heart to help, but it takes a strong spirit to uplift and reform others.

Born in Kano state, Nigeria to T.D. Rapu and Maria Rapu on the 1st of January 1957.

Tony Rapu, the only son and fourth of six children. His father, T.D. Rapu worked with the Nigerian Customs while his mother, Maria Rapu was a teacher.

He attended King’s College Lagos in the 70’s for his secondary education, and in the 80’s he progressed with his tertiary education at the University of Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria where he graduated with a degree in Zoology and later studied Medicine.

in 1986 – While working as a Medical Doctor at Eko Hospital, Lagos, Tony Rapu gave his life to Christ at a Friendship Bible Study meeting in the Ikoyi residence of his eldest sister, Mrs Bridget Itsueli.

Shortly after his conversion as a Christian, he had an epiphany and, in a bid, to make sense of it, his sister introduced him to Pastor E.A. Adeboye (General Overseer of R.C.C.G), a Doctor of Mathematics-turned-preacher.

Pastor Tony Rapu who is also a life coach and the senior pastor of House of Freedom church, had a vision to bring about developmental change to lives and communities by reaching out to different demographics through strategic interventions.

He has developed inventive methods and solutions in tackling issues such as drug addiction, urban poverty, and community development.

Pastor Tony Rapu, successful in reforming drug-addicted men and women off the stress and turned their lives around for better, he has made visitation to rural communities to provide them with food, money and, lead them to Christ.

He undertakes this work in his role as Freedom Foundation’s Chairman Board of Trustees, setting up programs that strategically focuses on different transformative projects.

The Genesis House – which is a residential rehabilitation program for girls and young women who were victims of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation.

House of Refuge – which is a drug rehabilitation and resource center which caters specifically for the rehabilitation needs of drug and alcohol dependent persons.

Bethesda Child Support Agency which mobilizes community resources with the assistance of partners to help children from impoverished backgrounds secure a better future through education.

King Solomon’s Funds which provides empowerment programs to young men and women via career skills training, business and entrepreneurial development training, vocational skills training, counseling and mentoring.

He is strategically uplifting young Nigerians to becoming a good steward of their gifts and opportunities.

He deserves our recognition as the Honorable of the Week, and we are hopeful that he will be an inspiration to many and also a reference of good deeds.
