Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon 38mm
Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon 38mm
Featuring the RD#3 movement in sand gold.
One of the less-noticed but arguably more interesting pieces debuting during Audemars Piguet’s 150th anniversary celebrations was the 38mm Code 11.59 Automatic Flying Tourbillon in sand gold.
Compact and elegant in pastel tones, this new tourbillon is discreetly set with diamonds. It is the first model to feature the ultra-thin caliber 2968 (also known as the RD#3), a different aesthetic than the Royal Oak.
This 38mm tourbillon is more intriguing than it first appears. While it may appear to be a women’s watch at first glance, primarily due to its somewhat bland beige seamless strap, its size and style make it a unisex watch.

I would have preferred to confine the diamonds to the center of the case for a more understated, formal look, but even then, the gem-setting is quite modest.
But the new tourbillon is more than just an aesthetic exercise. The caliber 2968 within is a refined movement, its ingenious details allowing it to remain remarkably slender.
The 38mm case also demonstrates that the Code 11.59 works well in smaller cases. This is particularly helpful, as many versions of the Code 11.59 feel a bit too large (although in some cases, the height is a technical requirement).
Path #3
The case, crafted entirely from the brand’s proprietary aventurine alloy—more specifically, a delightfully faded red gold—is 38mm in diameter and 9.6mm thick. 235 brilliant-cut diamonds are set on the lugs, crown, and case center, highlighting the versatility of the Code 11.59’s multi-part construction. The dial features a concentric guilloché pattern, crafted specifically for the Code 11.59 by a Swiss master guilloché artist. While stamped (a shame), the pattern is crisp and detailed. The dial itself is plated with aventurine, while the applied hour markers and hands are solid 18K aventurine.
The caseback reveals Caliber 2968, an automatic movement with a flying tourbillon, belonging to the same family as the Caliber 7121 and the new Caliber 7138 perpetual calendar in the Royal Oak “Jumbo.”
This movement is exceptionally thin, measuring just 3.4 mm—a remarkable achievement considering its full oscillating weight. This movement, first introduced as the RD#3 in 2022 for the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary, is now featured in the Code 11.59. While Caliber 2968 may not be as technically sophisticated as other AP “RD” movements, it remains the brand’s most sophisticated tourbillon chronograph movement.
